Waterford Scout County 2025

In what were easily the harshest weather conditions of 2025 so far, SEVO’s ever-resilient Treasurer and Chairperson braved the elements to plan and set the courses for a fantastic weekend of Scout Orienteering in the stunning surroundings of Dunmore East on November 15th & 16th.

Despite the unpredictable skies, Scouts from across County Waterford suited up and stepped out, ready to take on whatever Mother Nature threw their way—as well as the exciting course challenges designed for Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts. For many younger participants, it was their very first taste of orienteering, so a helpful introductory briefing was offered at the start to guide them through the basics.

Members may remember that last year’s Scout event in Portlaw was one of the club’s most successful ever, setting a high bar for both attendance and course quality. Rising to the challenge, Liam Casey played a key supporting role, with course planning by John Casey and timing control expertly managed by Brid Casey. A special thanks also goes to Pat O’Connor, who made sure the maps were top-notch and plentiful enough for the impressive turnout.

And, in the end, the weather decided to cooperate—at least a little—with Sunday delivering the best conditions of the weekend.
